Finding Streams and Stream Data

  1. Open the list of models

  4. A hover menu will appear – press Image Modified

The data contained in the stream will appear.

You will create a new grid view to show the data in the stream in a table format. This is illustrated by the following video.

To recap, the steps in the video were:

  1. Create dashboard:
    1. In the repository browser, find Image Modified

    2. Right click and select Image Modified

    2. Set the dashboard name to Overall Debt Levels
    3. Click Apply to save your changes
    4. A new, empty dashboard will appear
  1. Now create a new view on the dashboard:
    1. Use the Phixflow task bar (grey bar at the bottom of the screen) to navigate back to the model Dashboards and Forms 01-08: Views, filters and dashboards
    2. Double click on the stream Overall debt levels
    3. Again using the PhixFlow task bar, select the dashboard you just created (Overall Debt Levels) to bring this back to the front

  • Go to the Views section
  • To add a new view, click Image Removed - Insert
  • Configure the following details for the new view: 
    • Name: Overall Debt Levels
    • Display Type: Grid
    • Press Apply
    • In the View Attributes section, press Image Removed- Show Stream Attributes
    • Select all three attributes from the stream (not Count()) into the list of stream view attributes
  • Press Image Removed to save your changes and close the stream view configuration form

    1. Drag the icon in the top left hand corner of the stream config form onto the dashboard
    2. Choose a Grid view
    3. This creates a stream view - the stream view shows on the dashboard, and the configuration form for the view opens in the repository browser
    4. From the stream view configuration form, open the list of stream attributes
    5. Drag the attributes you want (in this case, all of them) from the list onto the header of the stream view in the dashboard

You can also see your new view in the list of views for the stream. View data in your view by right clicking your new view and selecting View Chart

You will see the data in the stream displayed in a table format – in fact, this is the same as the view you opened at the start of the exercise (the default view).

You can also see your new view in the hover menu view list – find this and open your new view from there (only a single click is needed to open a view from this menu)

Editing a Stream View

  • Open the list of views from the hover menu
  • Right-click on your new view and select Edit
  • You will change the order of the columns in the grid:
  • In the list of attributes under View Attributes, select PaymentMeans and drag it to the bottom of the list
  • Press Image Removed
  • Open the view

You will see the data in the stream, but with the columns re-ordered.:

  1. Hover over the stream Overall Debt Levels in the model
  2. From the hover menu press Image Added Show the list of Stream Views and select Overall Debt Levels

Editing a Stream View

  1. Open the dashboard Overall Debt Levels
  2. Right click on the data in the dashboard, select Image Added Show the Stream View Configuration

You can edit details of the view in the configuration form, but there are a number of change you can make directly to the view in the dashboard:

Re-order columns

To re-order columns:

  1. Grab a column heading
  2. Drag it, drop it in a new position

Freeze rows

You can freeze a number of columns.

First prepare some data:

  1. Open the model Dashboards and Forms 11-13. Actions to update, insert, delete
  2. Run analysis on the stream Wisteria Books Inventory - this will load data into the stream
  3. Create a new view:
    1. Create a new dashboard: Wisteria Books Inventory
    2. Drag the stream Wisteria Books Inventory onto the dashboard
    3. Select Grid view
    4. Add all attributes
  4. Widen the columns so that you can see all (or most) of the text in each column - eventually you will see a horizontal scroll bar appear at the bottom of the view

Freeze a column:

  1. Freeze the second column (this should be Subject): right click on the column heading and select Freeze column
  2. Slide the horizontal scroll bar - you will see the first 2 columns are frozen

Set width

You can fix the width of a column. By default, columns are flex. To see this, maximise the dashboard - the columns widen to fit the overall size of the window. To fix a column width:

  1. Grab the right hand edge of a column heading
  2. Move it to set the width
  3. Maximise the view - you will see that the set column stays the same size, while the remaining columns flex

Set flex

If you fix the width of a column, you can return it to being a flex column:

  1. Right click on a column heading
  2. Select Set flex column

Quick filtering

As well as building permanent filters (you will do this in the next exercise), quick filters are available to you and the users you are creating this view for. To use a quick filter:

  1. Hover over a column heading
  2. A Image Addedsymbol appears
  3. You can select operators and enter value to filter on values in that column
  4. You can add clauses to this filter
  5. You can additionally filter on other columns, and these filter will apply together to further filter the data

Quick sorting

As well as building permanent sort orders (you will do this in a future exercise), you can apply a quick sort:

  1. Right click on a column heading in the stream view
  2. Select Sort Ascending or Sort Descending


Note

All of the view operations you have just performed are also possible on grid view of configuration data - with the exception of re-ordering columns.

Open the stream Overall Debt Levels, in the list the of stream attribute try each of:

  1. Freeze and unfreeze columns (make the repository browser narrow, so that you see a horizontal scroll bar, to see the effect of this)
  2. Fix the width of a column, then drag the repository browser out so that all columns widen, other than the column you fixed
  3. Use quick filters to find an attribute containing the text Means
  4. Clear the filter
  5. Sort the attributes by attribute name
