The PhixFlow application server requires a number of different classes of network connection:

From

To

Requirements

User

PhixFlow Application Server

PhixFlow users use a web-browser front-end to communicate with the Application server. These users require:

  • Low speed (1Mbps)
  • Latency < 10ms
  • Many simultaneous connections (>10)

PhixFlow Application Server

Monitored Systems

The PhixFlow Application Server connects to many other business systems to import/export data. This requires:

  • High speed (1Gbps) / low latency

PhixFlow Application Server

PhixFlow Database Server

The PhixFlow Application and Database may be installed on separate servers. Take care to assess the latency if running under Vlans. If so, the connection between them requires:

  • Very high speed (5Gbps) / very low latency
  • Very many simultaneous connections (>50)

PhixFlow Application Server

Mail Server

The PhixFlow Application can be configured to generate outbound emails. This requires:

  • Medium speed (100Mbps) / latency
  • Few simultaneous connections (<10)

PhixFlow Support Agents

PhixFlow Application / Database Server

PhixFlow Solutions support agents may require access to the Application and/or Database server(s) in order to resolve reported incidents. This requires:

  • Low speed (1Mbps)
  • Few simultaneous connections (<5)

As these connections are only required intermittently, it would be reasonable to have this connection normally blocked by a firewall and opened on request.
