By the end of this chapter you will be able to:

  • Create a Task Plan
  • Add an Analysis Task to a Task Plan
  • Run a Task Plan
  • Monitor a Task Plan and view the results
  • Schedule a Task Plan
  • Set up automated emailing of Task Plan results

Creating Task Plans

At the end of the Introduction to Modelling course you created a Task Plan and set this to run under a schedule. If you still have this, you can skip this exercise.
If you do not have this, you can use the reference model Intro to Modelling 10: Generating Alarms, which contains all the components you built during the Introduction to Modelling course. Then, to set up the Task Plan:
In the left-hand menu bar find the button Show the list of Task Plans.
Press the '+' button. In the Task Plan details form that pops up:

  • Enter the Name Run Customer Details Model
  • Tick the flag Enabled
  • Press Apply
  • In the Tasks section of the form, press the '+' button
  • From the drop-down menu choose Analysis Task
  • In the Analysis Task details form that pops up:
    • Enter the Name Run Customer Summary by Region
    • Press Apply
    • Go to the tab Streams/Alarm Generators
    • Press the button Show the list of Streams
    • From the Streams list find the Stream Customer Summary by Region R
    • Drag this Stream into the Analysis Task Streams list
    • Press OK
  • In the main Task Plan details form press OK

Running Task Plans

At the end of the Introduction to Modelling course you created a Task Plan and set this to run under a schedule. If you still have this, you can skip this exercise.
If you do not have this, find your new Task Plan in the Task Plan list, right-click and select Start. The console will appear with the status of your running task. When complete, go to the Completed Tasks list and double-click on the entry for your Task Plan to see details.

Schedule Task Plans

At the end of the Introduction to Modelling course you created a Task Plan and set this to run under a schedule. If you still have this, you can skip this exercise.
If you do not have this, set up a schedule on the Task Plan you created in exercise 1.1.
Double-click the Task Plan to open the configuration form:

  • In the Details tab:
    • Tick the flag Scheduled
  • Go to the Schedule tab that appears
  • Enter the values:
    • Seconds: 0
    • Minutes: (2 or 3 minutes from now)
    • Hours: (the current hour)
    • Day of Month: *
    • Month: *
    • Day of Week: ?
    • Year: *
  • Press OK

Wait for your Task Plan to start under it schedule.

Configure Task Plan to email results

Open your Task Plan, go to the Send by Email tab. Enter the details:

  • Email From: centerview@company.com
  • Subject Expression: _taskPlan + " Status"
  • Message Expression: "Total Errors Reported " + _errors + ", Total Warnings Reported " + _warnings + ", Total Messages " + _messages

Press Apply. Then go to the tab Recipients. In the recipients pane find the button Show the list of Users. From the list of users drag one or more users into the list.
Press OK to complete configuration of the task plan.
