Database URLs

A database URL is used to specify a database instance to connect to, and is used in the phixflow-datasource.xml file. It includes the type of database, the host it is running on, and (generally) a database instance on the host.

These are the URL formats for the database platforms that PhixFlow currently supports.

PlatformConnection String

Oracle

jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:1521:phixflow

Oracle (> 12c with PDB containers)1

jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:1521/phixflow

Microsoft SQL Server (pre-2019)

jdbc:sqlserver://hostname\myservice;databaseName=phixflow

MySQLjdbc:mysql://hostname/phixflow?defaultFetchSize=2000

Where:

hostname

The name of the host which supports the database.

If the database is on the same host as the Tomcat web server, user localhost

phixflow

The name of the database.

Oracle PDB containers

1For Oracle 12c and above, if you are using PDB (pluggable database) containers, you should use a '/' instead of ':' before [SID], so that [SID] is treated as a SERVICE name rather than an SID.

There is also an option to add the line 'USE_SID_AS_SERVICE_listener=on' to the tnsnames.ora Oracle configuration file. This allows you to treat SID's as service names by default. This is provided by Oracle as a workaround for users who have hard-coded connection strings that are difficult to change by hand, and so should not be necessary for PhixFlow configuration.

For more information, see the following Oracle documentation links:

Introduction to the Multitenant Architecture (including an explanation of PDB's)

PhixFlow does not support Oracle's MySQL. If you choose to use it anyway, the database URL would be jdbc:mysql://hostname/phixflow.
