Export Configuration

Overview

You can export an application, packages or selected items from PhixFlow. This is useful when you want to:

  • take a backup, for example, before making changes.
  • import an application or package to another instance of PhixFlow.
For example, you may create application on a development instance of PhixFlow. When the application is ready, you then export it from the development instance and import it into a production instance.

If you want to export data only, see Export Table Data or Exporting Data from an Analysis Model.

How To Export Items

You can choose what items to export from the Export Configuration window.

  1. Click the  Administration icon, in the top right of the PhixFlow header bar.
  2. Select Export → Configuration.
  3. PhixFlow opens the Export Configuration window where you can specify what to export:

    FieldDescription
    Items to Export

    Select:

    • Select Items
Drag the items from the repository into the box.
When you add an application, PhixFlow asks if you want to add packages that the application uses. It is important to include the packages when you plan to import an application to another instance to ensure that the latest version of all the items the application uses are included.
    • Full Configuration to export the entire system configuration.
File NameEnter a name for the export file. It is good practice to include the date/time of the export.
DescriptionEnter a description for the file.
  4. Click Export Configuration. PhixFlow generates the export file, and opens the Download Area window; see Using the Download Area.

We recommend you download the file as soon as it is available, as your administrator may have set an expiry time.

  5. Double-click your export file to download it from the PhixFlow database.

  6. PhixFlow asks for a password it will use to encrypt the export file. Either use your default password or enter a new one.

Remember this password. You need to provide it when you import to another instance

  7. Click Confirm, then Download.
  8. PhixFlow saves the file to your local machine.

When you import an exported configuration to another instance, PhixFlow runs checks to make sure it has everything it needs. If it finds missing items, you may need to re-run the export including the required items; see Import Errors.

Passwords

Passwords Saved in PhixFlow

Exported files do not include any passwords from the PhixFlow system, such as passwords for:

  • user accounts
  • accessing external data, for example using file or HTTP collectors and exporters or FTP sites.

If you are planning to import an exported configuration to another PhixFlow instance, you may need to update the passwords in that instance.

Providing a Password to Encrypt the Exported File

By default, when you download an exported file, it is encrypted. You must provide a password that you can then use when you import the file into another instance.

Persisting Passwords

Some objects, such as the Datasource and HTTP Datasource, have the option to Protect on Import which will retain its settings even if imported from another instance.

Copying

In addition to being able to export items ready for import to another instance, you can also copy items into the same instance using the copy option. See Copying Configuration.

To move data between instances or to copy it see Copying or Moving Table Data.
