alarm

Forms: Alarm

Alarms are created by Alarm Generators which have been configured as part of an Analysis Model. Alarms are generally used to alert users to problems that need to be investigated but can also be used to indicate (positively) that there are no problems.

Introduction to alarms

Alarms can be set up in CenterView to alert users when critical conditions are detected in the underlying data.

Alarms are generated by Alarm Generators. Alarm Generators can be attached to any Stream on the modelling pane and define the conditions which cause an alarm to be raised. In order to configure a rule, you enter an expression (in exactly the same way that an attribute expression is entered for a Stream). If this expression is satisfied then the alarm is generated.

Once generated, each Alarm is displayed in a form providing the usual ticket management features e.g. raised and updated dates, ownership, status, closure reason etc. In addition, users can record notes against the alarm and attach files from external systems if these are useful in recording the cause of the alarm.

Once Alarms have been raised then they should be investigated, and if necessary, resolved using the information provided in the form. CenterView's Resolve perspective provides access to functionality supporting the investigation and resolution of Alarms. It provides the user with direct access to filterable alarm lists without needing to create a dashboard first (see 'Navigation' section below).

Navigation

Once Alarms have been generated in CenterView they can be viewed a number of ways:

  • To view alarms generated across controls in CenterView access the Resolve perspective by pressing the Resolve button along the top of the CenterView window.
  • To view alarms for a specific Alarm Generator right click on it and select Show Alarms for this Alarm Generator, or select the same option from the hover menu for an Alarm Generator. This brings up the list of alarms for that Alarm Generator.
  • Dashboards are user defined collections of charts and filtered lists of alarms and tasks.

All of these methods open up a list of alarms. Details for an individual alarm can by opened by double-clicking on the alarm.
